News From the Elders: April '23 Recap
REJOICING IN EASTER WEEKEND 2023
The highlight for the month of April was the glorious Easter Weekend celebration. For the Good Friday service, Teaching Pastor Brent Van Elswyk complemented the time of worship and communion with a message entitled, “Five Miraculous Touches Surrounding the Crucifixion.” In his message, Pastor Brent highlighted five miracles surrounding the crucifixion of Jesus that truly confirmed He was the Son of God.
On Saturday, over 2,500 people gathered on our campus for Family Night. There was a wide variety of great food options, Easter Egg hunt, a gigantic bounce house maze, a mini-concert from our RCC worship team and numerous games and activities for children.
The weekend culminated on April 9 with our Easter service. Over 5,000 people attended the service in person and thousands more watched online. Senior Pastor Matt Vorhees continued where Pastor Brent finished on Good Friday by preaching a message entitled, Jesus is the Prize, from Matthew 27-28. He contrasted the response of the religious leaders of Jesus’s day with the women who discovered the empty tomb. 18 people publicly professed their faith in Jesus through baptism. Our Savior and Lord Jesus was highly exalted and the weekend was a true blessing.
THANKFUL FOR NEWCOMERS AT RCC
On April 30, some of our elders and pastoral staff hosted a Newcomers Luncheon. The gathering is designed for those who have just started attending RCC in the past two months. Over 30 adults and children attended the lunch and heard about who we are at RCC, our leadership structure, how we operate as a church and how to get connected in our church body.
CELEBRATING THE FELLOWSHIP OF CHRISTIAN ATHLETES LEGACY DINNER
RCC hosted the Kern County Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) Legacy Dinner on April 27. Over 230 people attended the event honoring three generations of Damrons (Duane, Brent, Seth) who have served the Lord faithfully through FCA. For more information concerning how to support and get involved with FCA, go to their website, kerncountyfca.org.
“Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.”
